Every birth journey is unique, and it’s natural to have questions along the way. These FAQs are here to give clarity, comfort, and guidance as you explore your options and prepare for what’s ahead.

About the Role

What exactly does a Birthkeeper/Doula  do?

A Birthkeeper or Doula is a professional companion for pregnancy, birth, and early parenthood, providing emotional support, practical guidance, and advocacy. You can learn more about what a Birthkeeper does on our Homepage.

Midwives and doctors focus on medical care and safety; I focus on emotional, physical, and thoughtful guidance. Think of me as your constant companion, helping you feel empowered, supported, and heard throughout your journey. While your medical team provides expert care at key moments, I offer continuous, personalised support and continuity of care from the very beginning to the end of your pregnancy, birth, and early parenthood.

Absolutely! During sessions, I typically welcome one loved one — this could be your partner, a family member, or a close friend — to ensure personalised attention and high-quality care. If you’d like to include additional people, we can discuss options to make that work. I work alongside your chosen loved one — coaching, supporting, and helping them feel confident in their role — so you feel prepared and cared for throughout your journey. The perinatal journey is a team effort, with you as the captain, and I ensure everyone supporting you feels included, informed, and empowered.

Not at all! I work with families of all experiences, whether it’s your first baby or a growing family. Every journey is unique, and I adapt my support to meet your needs, no matter where you are in your parenting journey.

Booking & Customisation

When should I book a Doula?

Ideally, during your second trimester, but it’s never too late to reach out. Booking early ensures I have time to get to know you, understand your preferences, and build a supportive relationship before your birth.

Birth & Virtual Support

How involved is my partner/loved one during birth?

Your partner or loved one’s role is central, and I work alongside them — supporting, coaching, and helping them feel confident in their part of the journey. I’m here to enhance their experience, not replace it.

Absolutely. Whether you’re planning a hospital birth, home birth, or birth center experience, I’m here to provide consistent support tailored to your needs.

Birth is unpredictable, and my role is to support you to adapt and process decisions in the moment. I will be there to advocate for your wishes, and provide emotional care afterward — no judgment, only guidance and reassurance.

Yes! Many aspects of my support — including antenatal sessions, check-ins, and some postpartum guidance — can be offered virtually. This makes it easier to stay connected no matter where you are.

Postpartum & Newborn Care

Do you provide postpartum support?

Yes! Most of my packages include at least one postnatal session, and I also offer extended postpartum care. I help with emotional support, feeding guidance, and practical strategies to make those first weeks easier for you and your family.

Yes. Your first postnatal session includes support for feeding and newborn care, and I can provide guidance, resources, and hands-on strategies to help you feel confident.

Payment & Practicalities

Do you offer payment plans?

Absolutely — we know welcoming a baby is a big life change (and your bank account might be feeling it too!). Flexible payment options are available so you can get the care and support you need without breaking the bank — because feeling supported shouldn’t come with extra stress.
